Dear friends,

Rachel Wild and John Haggerty are reading and selecting stories in June. Here is what they are looking for. Our selection is competitive, so please send us your best!

Rachel Wild’s wishlist:

I am looking for stories that make me think about them after I finish reading. I want to see language that inspires me; subject matter that is out of the ordinary, explored in a different way.

John Haggerty’s wishlist:

I am more a maximalist than a minimalist. I like Flannery O’Connor, Faulkner, and Melville more than Hemingway and Carver. I like beautiful sentences—if you write with rhythm and electricity, it will make me take notice.

Literature should take chances. Send me something that you were afraid to write, something that made you so uncomfortable you didn’t want to be in the same room with it. Break some rules. Teeter on the edge of failure. That’s where things really start to come alive.
